Nude fashion. This is just weird.

Humpdayhump
ActIII. Scene IV: *We are cruising in the Volkswagon Bug (lime green of course) and I am bitching... * Fill in your blanks on your blog or in the comments. *Quiet on the set!* ACTION!
I am such a damn night owl lately. I get up at 3am and stay up until 5am. I either make myself go to sleep or one of the kids comes looking for me. Usually the latter. I go through spurts of insomnia and narcolepsy it seems. I do my best thinking at night though. Are you a night owl or a morning lark?
You: I am definitely a night owl. My brain doesn't seem to kick in until then. Part of the reason I end up being up so late sometimes is due to my brain just not stopping. I'll lay in bed and be unable to fall asleep because the thoughts won't stop.
I am appalled about the damn Arizona inmates bitching about their violation of freedom of speech over the internet. What the hell? What's your take on it?
You: I haven't heard about that. Although there is a reason these people are in jail and they shouldn't have all their freedoms. There are some good reasons for restriction of some freedoms. That is part of what being in prison is about...it's not supposed to be cozy, fun or enjoyable.
We had our house inspection yesterday and found out that the siding on our house was recalled and under a class action lawsuit as is the piping for the water. Not to mention the roof leaks and the 73 other things the inspector found. Have you ever been so close to something just to have a major upset step in the way? Please do tell! I need someone to be able to relate!
You: My whole life seems to be that way lately. It's just one thing after another.
On the bright side my house is spotless! I even cleaned the toilet tanks! You know, the back part of the toilet? I rock. I don't clean as often as some others do but when I do it, I do it right. You clean much? Any cleaning pet peeves?
You: I don't clean as much as I should. I really hate cleaning the bathroom. Not sure why but it's always been the thing i hated to clean most. Also I hate cleaning in the summer when it's hot and sticky. It's just a gross feeling.

God has a Live Journal.

Say goodbye to July
Another month nearly done with. Not sure if that's good or bad. But I know that it is, so...yeah. It's finally cooled off a bit...which is good. But it's supposed to be nice and disgusting toomorrow. I'm so looking forward to that ;)

Secret has new tv spots out. Seems they are following the old Folger's format...with a continuing story about two people. Hmm.

Well yay...the Gilmore Girls that is on tonight is one I've not seen. Grooviness. At least it helps in taking my mind off the heat...well just a little bit. I have taken 3 showers today so far and wet my hair about 10 times. It's like i need to have a spatuala on hand every time I want to get up. Humidity is making everything stick to everything. You have to love it when the weather is 90F at 8.30pm! C invited me over to his place since my ac is broken. But since I'm going over there tomorrow I guess I can deal with it. I don't want to be a hangy girlfriend. Not like the his roommate's, um, girl. Ugh, that situation is kind of wacked. Very wacked if you ask me. Although, both involved are somewhat wacked themselves so, I guess it is only natural. At the wedding on Saturday, during the ceremony, I happened to look to over at them, as they were sitting next to C and me, and he reached for her hand and she moved away. I started laughing but held it back. Surprising that he was the one reaching number one. And number two, since they are supposedly nothing serious this time, I thought it kind of odd that that's what was going on. But ah well, it added some amusement to the day. Adding to that, I caught the bridal bouquet too! It's very pretty. It came right at me too, which is kind of scary. As soon as I realized it was in my arms, I started laughing. Partly because I was quite sloshed, but...also because of what "it means". Ah well, I know it won't be happening for a while anyways so nothing to worry about.
And I worry too much as it is. It seems lately I worry about every little thing. It keeps me from sleeping. I lay in bed at night and my mind goes. And goes and goes. And it's like 15 billion thoughts all at once. And I don't know what to do with them.*sigh* I think it's almost time for another shower.

Two for Tuesday
1. Describe one thing that is guaranteed to make you laugh - every time you see, hear or do it? monty python and the holy grail...for some reason it just doesn't get old. best viewing of it was a theater in LA. great when everyone is saying the lines...or you can look around and see them all mouthing it.
2. Give us an audio/visual description of your laugh - not that fake one you use around your boss and people who aren't actually funny, but your real laugh.
Um. I guess it's sort of loud and deep and very ha ha ha...

This or that?
1. Charlie Chaplin or Buster Keaton? Charlie Chaplin
2. Laurel & Hardy or Abbott & Costello? Laurel and Hardy
3. Marx Brothers or Three Stooges? Three Stooges
4. David Letterman or Jay Leno? Leno
5. "Saturday Night Live" or "Mad TV"? SNL
6. Adam Sandler ("Mr. Deeds") or Mike Myers ("Austin Powers")? Mike Myers
7. Jerry Seinfeld or Ray Romano ("Everybody Loves Raymond")? neither but if i had to pick I'd go with Jerry Seinfeld
8. George Carlin or Bill Cosby? George Carlin
9. "Monty Python's Flying Circus" or "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In"? Python!
10. Gone but not forgotten...John Belushi or Chris Farley? John Belushi

Tuesday Too
1.) Do you have a friend like Mr. Potatoehead? In other words do you have a friend that trouble seems to follow like a bad penny? Tell us about that friend or one of his/her bad pennies? I don't think I do. Which surprises me.
2.) Was there something you really meant to accomplish, or really wanted to do that you didn't do last week? How come you didn't do it? Last week I meant to finish fixing my sisters present but I never got around to it. Mostly due to being lazy and I also couldn't find something I needed. But I have located it, so I should do it.
3.) Pretend you're in the market for a therapist. What would be the therapist's most desirable quality? Why that one? Effectiveness. I'd like to know that their patients were happy with how their treatment was going and all that. I mean if they aren't effective, it's kind of pointless.

PromoGuy's Monday Mission 2.30
1. What is your favorite snack food? My favorite are Red Vines. Or BBQ potato chips/crips. Or guacamole and chips. Does anyone you know have weird tastes in snacks? Not really. I have known some people who did like some strange things.
2. Ever caught yourself saying "well it can't get any worse" and it does? Yes. What's the story there? Not much of a story really. I'll say it when I am trying to keep from being depressed or down about something. I don't think I usually mean it when I say it though.
3. I have a super-short attention span, and it always was my downfall in school, especially math class. What's your attention span like and how has it served you? Somewhat short, although if I need to be very focused on something, like a particular project for work, I can do it.
4. Do you believe in the existence of extra-terrestrials? Sure. I don't see why this planet, in the whole of the universe, would be the only one to have conditions conducive for life. Whether or not they are like ET or something, I don't know.
5. What do you think of the whole "crop circles" phenomenon? I think it's weird. Not really sure what to make of it.
6. Ever had a time where you begin visiting with someone you don't know all that well and just find you "click" like long lost pals? Tell me about how that came to happen, and who was it? What kind of things do you have in common? Not really. I've clicked with people but not like that. Although I guess C and I clicked like that in a way. We knew each other vaguely before we met up again last year and started dating, but not very well. We share a love of music british comedies, and various things.
7. When I was at the cemetery a few weeks ago, I began to recall my Dad's funeral so many years ago. It is so vivid, sitting there in the family room as his friends passed by and paid their respects, the music, his face, the tears. What funeral do you remember most vividly? My step-fathers three years ago.
BONUS: How can I forget you, girl? You can't ;D

First Date
Do you remember your first date? Now, for all those geeks amongst us I'm using a very broad definition of the word "date" here. It can just as easily be a cyber date. I don't care if you met in person or not. Just tell us about your first date! (please)

I guess my first date was going to the beach with this guy Nick. It was the summer between 8th and 9th grade. He was really cool and I liked him and we spent a good part of the summer going to the beach and hanging out. I think, although it is a little fuzzy now, that our first date was going to the beach near where I lived. We hung out for the day and then we went home. Nothing super crazy but fun.

Participation Positives

~i made it there on time

~i caught the bridal bouquet at the wedding I went to this weekend....wait is that a good thing? ;)
~i didn't say anything stupid at the interview today (gah i hope I didn't)
~diet sprite...mmmm
~i am not hungover today.

Friday Stuff
Friday Five
1. How long have you had a weblog? Since May 2002. Not very long at all. Well, then there's my other journal which I started um...end of last year (yes, I'm too lazy to go look at the exact date).
2. What was your first post about? Testing it out. Like most.
3. How many changes (name, location, etc.) of your weblog have there been, if more than one? Only one layout/design change so far, but who knows what the future holds.
4. What CMS (content management system) do you use? Do you like it or do you want to try something else? Blogger for now. I could be using Dreamweaver and just be doing it myself but I'm too lazy and I like that I can update from other computers too. There's also my livejournal thing too...although it's not used as much.
5. Do you read people who have both a journal and a weblog? Or do you prefer to read people who have all of their writing in one central place? Usually just read one of them...but so far there are only a few that I read regularly and they tend to be all in one spot.

Friday Group Therapy 1.5
1. How well did you do in History class in school? I did okay. Helps that I had two parents who taught the stuff. But if it's something I wanted to learn about, like the medieval history classes I took in college, I tended to do better.
2. Who is your favorite historical "good" person? Shakespeare or Chaucer.
3. Who is your favorite historical "bad" person? Um. Henry VIII.
4. Is there a historical event or era that has caught your imagination? The renaissance in Europe. All that creative thinking...yowzah!
5. If you could choose any historical time and place to live, where and when would you choose? The medieval period is my favorite. There's just something about it. The great dresses and all kinds of things. Granted being female during that time wasn't the best, and unless you were nobility, life was very hard. So, I'd want to be part of the English royalty of some kind. :)
6. If you could go back in time with your present knowledge intact, where would you go and what would you do? Hmm. Good question. Let's see. So many options. Gah I can't decide. :( -Go back to before I found out I was getting laid off and tell myself to look for work, when there was some. -Go back to where my stepdad died and make sure there were EMTs there who could have handled the situation, or take him straight to the hospital before it happened. -Go back to yesterday before my hair got butchered and stop him. There's plenty more, and I could spend the day doing this...so I'll stop here.
7. Which version of the beginning of time do you subscribe to? (Big Bang, Biblical Creation, etc...) Big Bang...or some variation of that.

It's Thursday in Caffeineland

Mr. Walken's journal I'm a huge fan of Mr. Walken, but I've learned you can't always believe what you see on the web. I've always thought he was great. I love his appearances on SNL. His part in the Fatboy Slim video was perfect. I wish he did more comedy. *sigh* But whether or not it's his journal, it's well written and a good way to amuse yourself for a few minutes.

Have you feng shui-ed your mobile phone yet? If not head straight over to phoneshui.co.uk! hehe. Those silly Brits! :) (fyi-it's a flashsite)

Strap-on duck will keep you awake? So claims the Argentinian inventors of the Duckmaster. They say the Duckmaster is more than just a way for students to stay awake in class but also could be useful in keeping drivers from falling asleep at the wheel. How does it work? The Duckmaster fastens around the user's neck and starts quacking if the owner's head slumps forward.

Thursday Thumb Twiddler
1. You've been diagnosed with a presently incurable disease, with no more than three months to live. If you had a modest chance of surviving cryogenic freezing in the next week, to be awakened in a thousand years to live a greatly extended life ... would you do it? Sure. Worth a shot at least.
2. A friend asks for your opinion about an original novel (painting, sculpture, song) they've created. You think it is utterly dreadful. Do you lie about it, diplomatically tone down your true feelings, or tell the complete, unvarnished truth? Probably tone down my true feelings. Most likely I'd tell them it wasn't the best thing they had done, but would try to break it to them nicely.
3. In honor of the weather, what do you think is the most enjoyable thing to do in the snow? Hmm. Snow ball fights!!

Thursday Threesome
Onesome: all - all the world's a stage... So what types of issues put you on your soapbox? I don't get up there often...hmmm....would have to be environmental issues and society issues (free-choice for abortions, poverty issues, health care issues, etc). Oh and advertising related stuff too.
Twosome: things - what sort of things are you most likely to purchase "spur of the moment" when shopping? Shoes, books, shoes, cds, shoes, and um...shoes.
Threesome: girl - sugar and spice and everything nice? Come now, what are YOU really made of? coffee.

Got some great stuff from the farmer's market today- a bunch of basil, green garlic, some onions, raspberries and peaches. Going to use the first three for dinner tomorrow. I already ate the raspberries and peaches. They were so good.
It's finally cooling off a bit. Today was disgusting...hot and sticky and miserable. Hopefully it will stay cool for a bit. We need a break from the heat.

Heading out to a farmer's market for the freshest produce of the season! (gah, that sounds so "star market".) I will not have flashbacks of those ads...I will not!

Finally I visited Wil Wheaton dot net. I've seen the link to his site on quite a few other weblogs and wondered if it was THE Wil Wheaton. And apparently it is. For some reason I find it sort of funny but also rather cool. I've tried to get to Moby's weblog but it crashes my computer. Kind of cool that they have their own sites.

Two for Tuesday
1. What sound do you love to hear and why? The sound of the ocean...waves lapping on the beach. It's very calming.
2. Is there a smell that you find particularly unpleasant? Why? Yes, I hate fishy smells. It makes me feel sick for some reason. Which is part of the reason I don't eat fish or seafood. Don't like that fishy taste either.

Tuesday Too # 22
1.) Do you think pornography is dangerous? Why, or why not? Not necessarily. I think there are people who can enjoy it and it's fine. But there are some people who develop a screwed up prespective because of it, like how to treat women. From the female perspective, it's hard for me to pick a side. In many ways it's a way for women to make good money (usually), but there's also some who fall into it at a young age, not really knowing what they're getting themselves into. And for the latter...it can be dangerous too.
2.) What do you think about people being held in jail without charges, without access to a lawyer, or a phone call for an indeterminate period of time? I think it's bad. I used to be an active Amnesty international member...but I've been bad about keeping up on it for a while.
3.) How do you feel about this US program? I suppose it's a good idea in that the FBI and CIA can't be everywhere. Although I can see the potential danger in it as well. It has a hint of 1984 to it.

Drink of the Day:
Purple Passion
2 oz Belaya Rus Luxe vodka
1 oz Chambord
Pour ingredients into cocktail glass, ice and stir.

Monday Memory
Share with us the first time you were allowed to stay up late, or do something out of the ordinary, because of something "special". Hmmm. Hard one. Trying to remember back. Well, dang I have no idea. Scary that I don't remember it. I suppse it's because I used to stay up late more than most. I'm a night owl. Always have been.

Participation Positives
Verizon fixed my cell phone bill so it's what it should be
I was brave and called and took care of something that invovled confrontation and I handled it well (normally I put off that sort of thing as long as possible)
I am watching Monty Python- and the parrot sketch is on! yay!
I ate a mint chocolate chip ice cream sandwich and it was good
There is enough money in my account so that I will not be negative when my bills go through (*crosses fingers*)
Got a high score on Snood (played while on hold when talking to the phone people)
C's mom wants to commission me to make her some notecards and my step-mum wants to commission me to make her holiday cards
People seem to like my cards
I cleaned out one of the boxes in my closet (it's a start)
Get to see C on Wed.

PromoGuy's Monday Mission 2.29
1. Do you remember your first encounter with computers? Tell me about that. Had to have been...6th or 7th grade. Old school Apple computers. Used them for math stuff but also games. There was this waterballoon war type game...it was fun. Taught angles and that sort of thing.
2. How late can you stay up and still be functional the next day? Do you do that very often? Depends. Usually when I have to be up for something I can stay up forever. If I don't need to get up for anything in particular the next day I tend to go to be at a reasonable time. When I'm working I'm usually in bed by midnight or so. Although lately I've had some insomnia.
3. When was the last really good hug you got from another adult? Who was it and what was the situation? Sunday morning from my sweetie. I was still in bed and he was leaving to go to work. He gives great hugs.
4. One thing about children is that they all like to draw. We all shared the same ability and skill level at one time. Do you still like to draw? (Not do you think you draw well, or do others, but do you like to?) If not, how come? Did you get discouraged at some point? I like to draw still. I doodle a lot but it's more of when the mood strikes me. I do like to paint. Although that's a more abstract thing for me. I don't do well with "realistic" type of painting. I prefer to go for a more emotional thing...using colors and shapes rather than just painting what I see before me.
5. I way overslept today. I had to head to work with no shower (don't get too close), and I am not in the best of moods. Have you ever overslept on a day you had something important going on? What's the story there? Hmm. I think the most resent one would have been a meeting at work (when I was working), that was at 8am. Normally we didn't have to be there unil 8.30-9am and I forgot to reset my alarm earlier. I pretty much woke up, felt my heart jump out of my chest and threw on some clothes and ran out the door. I ended up only a few minutes late thankfully. No one made a big deal out of it, and I was very relieved. When I got home I headed straight for the shower.
6. Ever go shopping for something you know you can't afford? You look at it and even think about how it will look when you get it home, somehow you justify the cost and believe it can happen? And just before you get to the counter come to your senses? What was the last thing you almost bought, but thought better of it? And why the heck do we do that to ourselves? Yes. Although I've been very good about it lately. I've just stopped going to the stores unless my goal is to purchase something and then the strategy is, go in, and get out as fast as possible. The last thing I did that with was with some clothes at BR. That place is such an achilles heel for me. There and any shoe stores. Why do we do this? I have no idea. Sometimes I feel like when I do it I'm trying to fill some void...or forget my worries. But then all it does is add more worries (financially)...so it becomes a viscious cycle.
7. (It begins again...) It's all such a blur now. I'd asked you to help me wake up but the alarm didn't go off. It was 10 till and just I knew I'd be late. Somehow you got me here on time. How did you do that?ย  Because I'm good like that.
BONUS: Can't you see, you belong to me? Yay the Police! I love them. I wish I had been old enough to have gone to a concert while they were still around. Sting was my first concert that I went to, and last year it was C's and my first date too.

Wicked Good Guide to Boston English is funny. Vocab and pronuncation and other things you might need to know to fit in and not look/sound like a tourist.

Make yourself into a South Park character. Kind of fun...good way to waste a bit of time.

Wet hair. Need to get it cut. I wish I could do it myself but I know I won't be able to do it evenly. So I'll leave it to a professional.

Tomorrow is Monday. Nothing planned so far. Maybe a short trip to the supermarket to get some edibles...because I'm running low on fruit and snackie stuff. Plus, I need to get some low fat snacks since it's semi-crash diet week. I'm going to try at least to be better than usual. Going to a wedding on Saturday so I wanna look good. Although I know I fit into my dress so...maybe I won't bother. :)

Just a mini-complaint I'd like to put out there...if you want people to read your site or your weblog/blog...don't make the font so damn small that it cannot be seen! Drives me bonkers.

Sunday Op-ed
1. Fall- Which season do I think is the nicest weather-wise? I like the summer, but here it's usually overly hot and muggy and humid, which makes it less enjoyable. Fall is nice and comfortable without having to have fans on 24/7 and you can be comfortable in jeans.
2. Vacation- What is something I'd want to do right now? I do have the time to do it but not the funds. I'd love to go back to London, or travel around the UK.
3. Travel- What is one of the things I love to do? It's so much fun to see new places. And to travel to see family and friends, who keep seeming to be further and further away.

Britney Spears' Guide to Semiconductor Physics....one of the more amusing things I've found on the net.

First...finally not melting in my apartment for the first time in ages. I was able to take a *hot* shower and enjoyed it very much!

Sausageguy.com?- street vendors with radio ads and a website??? weirdness. and a webcam??? Yikes! I dunno I find this really funny. Just goes to show that my sense of humor is quite screwed up. The most amusing bit is the sounds he's got when you're on the page of what I'm guessing is supposed to be someone eatting a sausage.

New layout for space.com, at least since I last visited a while ago. Looks much nicer...more...um...spacey.
There's an interesting article on how NASA needs to work on new programs to get humans out into space again. Not just orbiting the Earth but back to the Moon and on to Mars. It's amazing to think that it's been over 30 years since humankind has taken that kind of trek. Back in the day, after those first trips to the Moon, I wonder if people thought that kind of space travel thing was going to become a more commonplace event? In many ways I find it weird too, because the technology exists already. It's not like the first trip to the Moon where no one was absolutely positive that it was going to be a possible thing. Sure we've got people up on the space stations and trips out of our atmosphere have been made...but why aren't there more expeditions to the moon or Mars?

Can satelites help forecast earthquakes? In 2000, Congress allocated $2 million to NASA to see how space technology could help to predict earthquakes. And the result is the GESS...Global Earthquake Satelite System study. Quite interesting.

On this day in 1969, humankind first touched down on the moon. 33rd anniversary...cool. Check out NASA for images and history stuff.

Friday Five
1. Where were you born? SoCal. In a hospital...
2. If you still live there, where would you rather move to? If you don't live there, do you want to move back? Why or why not? Not there anymore. I don't know if I would want to move back. Maybe. Depends.
3. Where in the world do you feel the safest? In my man's arms (awww)
4. Do you feel you are well-traveled? Compared to some. Although there is still much for me to see.
5. Where is the most interesting place you've been? Probably Florence Italy. Amazing place.

Friday Group Therapy 1.3
1. How did/will you tell your children about sex and childbirth and at what age? In a more medical way. No birds and bees crap. Honesty is best with kids. And I think the less big deal you make some stuff out to be, the less big deal they will make it out to be too. Sex is life. And better to make them aware that it will be around them. Age...depends on when they start asking questions.
2. How old were you when you found out about sex and how did it happen? Very young...from cable tv.
3. What was the most shocking thing that you ever discovered about sex? (Shocking at the time that you discovered it, not necessarily shocking now.)
That it can be painful for virgins.
4. Tell us about any "first" in your sexual life. Um...I'd rather not.
5. What is your "sexual identity"? Not quite sure what this means but I like men...their smell, their bodies, their silly thought processes that drive us ladies crazy (in a non-sexual way *lol*).

Saturday Scruples
1. Your son's Fifth Grade teacher is proud to be gay. He espouses gay family values in class. Do you protest to the principal? No. The whole "gay" thing needs to be understood by kids. The earlier they understand that there's no difference, the less of an issue it will be.
2. As a joke, a co-worker sends anonymous love letters to another co-worker who takes them seriously. Everyone is enjoying the prank. Do you expose it? Depends if I like the person that's getting pranked.
3. Due to a mix-up the tax department fines you $500 for tax evasion. You're completely innocent but it'll cost $5000 to fight in court. Do you fight on principle? Yes. And I'd get them to pay for my court fees too.

Thursday is here
Thursday Thumb Twiddler
1. One hot summer afternoon, while walking through a parking lot at a large shopping mall, you notice a dog suffering badly from the heat inside a locked car. What would you do? Call the local animal rights group. That's abuse. Plain and simple.
2. You are in a restaurant rest room. You notice an employee leaving without washing his/her hands. Do you bring the matter to the attention of the owner or manager? If so, do you do it publicly or privately? Probably not. I'd most likely just leave the place. And tell people not to go there.
3. What is one item you own that you really should throw away ... but probably never will? Hmm. I got a wedding souviner from a friends wedding two years ago. It's a tamborine with their wedding date and stuff on it.

Thursday Threesome
Onesome. A Clear - In the last few months, what have you muddled over that suddenly became a clear, focused picture or plan of action? That any job can be a good job as long as there's money coming in.
Twosome. And Present - what is the coolest present you've ever gotten and/or given? Playstation 2 when they just came out. Gave it to an ex-bf of mine. Was probably a mistake to have spend that much money on him. Oh well, live and learn ;)
Threesome. Danger - have you ever been in a dangerous situation? Yeah...one morning I woke up and had run out of coffee...oh wait...this probably means real danger. Hmm. Driving around here is always dangerous. I've noticed lately people who are turning left tend to think they somehow now have the right of way on the road. Did I not get a memo or something?

Tuesday stuff

Two for Tuesday
1. If you could visit any country in the world, where would you go and why?
This is a tough one. I would love to go to England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Morocco, Egypt, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, Amsterdam, Sweden, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy...I'll stop there. I love seeing new places. I've been to England and Italy but there's just so much to see, I know I missed seeing lots of things.
2. Back to reality. Have you got any summer vacation plans?
Not really. A couple possible weekend trips to the Cape maybe but...that's about it.

Tuesday Too
1.) What is the most important thing going on in your life this week?
Trying to get a job. Looking for a job. Calling people to get me a job.
2.) Tell us about your quintessential faux pas.
I blame myself for things that I have no control over.
3.) Why would you most likely be nominated to speak your mind, and what is it you're going to say? Doubtful someone would want me to speak my mind. But if they did I suppose it would be because I know about some subject...perhaps advertising or being unemployed ;)

This or That
1. Rented lodgings, or staying with friends/relatives? Rented! well depending on the length of the stay. Short stays with friends/relatives can be good too.
2. Lots of activities, or just lying around doing nothing? Depends where you are. If in a new place, like London or Dublin or something you have to go out and enjoy the place. But camping and other trips...lying around and doing nothing certainly does have it's merits as well.
3. Blogging while on vacation...yes or no? If it doesn't interrupt your vacation or time with who you're traveling with, why not?
4. If you have children and/or pets...bring them along or make other arrangements? Since I have none I don't have to worry about this. But if i did, I'd say if going on a road trip take them along (depending on the type of pet), unless it's a get-away for parents. Then no kids or pets. Just love :)
5. Do you cook while away on vacation, or eat out every day? In the past it's usually been eat out every day. Although if I'm staying with family or friends, we tend to eat in too.
6. Do you pack light and plan to do laundry while away, or overpack and wash everything when you get home? I always try to pack light...I'm getting better at it, but I still overpack.
7. Drive to your vacation spot, or take some kind of public transportation? Depends where I'm going. If it's nearish...will drive. Otherwise is a plane or something.
8. If you have a cell phone...on or off while away? Off but check it once a day or so just in case of an emergency call.
9. Bring work along or not? No. That's what a vacation is for. Although if I had to I would.
10. Returning home with more stuff than you originally took with you...yes or no? Typically...yes.

The 21st annual Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest for horrible writing has a winner.
The winning first sentence to a fake novel was ""On reflection, Angela perceived that her relationship with Tom had always been rocky, not quite a roller-coaster ride but more like when the toilet paper roll gets a little squashed so it hangs crooked and every time you pull some off you can hear the rest going bumpity-bumpity in its holder until you go nuts and push it back into shape, a degree of annoyance that Angela had now almost attained." Congrats to Rephah Berg. Maybe I should try to enter that this coming year. Thought about it but never got around to it this time.

Unemployment
Just called the unemployment office to see if I was eligible for unemployment again. Man, I hate to do this. So sucky. I've had been trying to get through all day. "All our representatives are busy, the estimated wait time is 40.5 minutes." Yikes. Finally got it to where the wait time was only 19.7 minutes...thankfully. From my adventures calling before, it's rarely as long as they say it will be. The man who I spoke with was rather nice. It's nice to have someone who isn't crabby when you're dealing with this sort of thing. But I'm all signed up again...now just have to wait and see if it's all good and how much I'll get. Doubtful it will be as much as it was last time...although if they go by the ad freelance rates...it wouldn't be too bad. So, we shall see. There's nothing more I can do about it now at least. And then there's the possibility that work could come about.
I tried contacting one of the temp agencies I had used in the past but stopped using as they paid quite poorly and weren't very good. When I first went in and interviewed with someone there, actually two people, both were gone when I called and tried to connect back with them. Now the "new" contact I had is gone. And the "head" of the recruiters(? what the heck to do you call these people?) isn't returning my phone calls. I really don't want to work with these people as they obviously are not the best. But the place that I do like, which had been getting me rather steady work, has not had much of anything. So I gotta do what I gotta do. The thought occurs that I should perhaps contact a couple more temp agencies as there are tons of general office temp ones around. I'm just tired of the stupid interviews you have to go through and the typing tests and such. I wish I could just get the results from one place and pass it along with my resume and leave it at that. Of course they want to test you for themselves, because it takes up more of your time. So it's fun! I guess I'm just lazy in that respect. I just want the job, I don't want to have to be interviewed ad nausaum.
This time I hope I remember to get the taxes taken out of the unemployment check...I learned a lesson the last time. It's bad to have to pay it all at once in April when you still have no money. :x

Monday things

Monday Mission 2.28

1. Have you ever sold anything through an online auction? What did you sell and did you make very much? Nope not yet.

2. Have you ever bought anything through an online auction? How was your experience? Not yet. I'm too low on cash to be buying stuff :(

3. Do you like the sun? Yes. To a point. Sometimes it gives me a headache. Getting a suntan? Yes although I'm less of a sunworshiper than I used to be. I look much nicer with a little bit of color. Have you ever had a bad sunburn? Oh yes. Many many times. Worst one was when I went to Hawaii and sat in the sun between 10-3. I had to wear the same bikini for days just so it would stay where my burn lines were.

4. Are you a vegetarian? No. Why? If not, have you ever considered it? Meat is good. Although I did go through a period when I was younger when I didn't eat it much. Also went through a no-chicken phase. And although I don't eat fish or seafood, it's more because I don't like the taste of it, not that it's because it's an animal.

5. Suppose you are getting into your car after you've just made your purchase from a store you visit twice a week. You suddenly realize you had a .35ยข item in your hand and you forgot to pay for it. What would you do next? (what *would* you do, not what *should* you do) I'd return and put it back. If someone asked I'd explain. Being a regular cutomer I'm assuming they'd at least recognize that and not make a huge fuss about it.

6. Sometimes it seems that there is just not enough time to do everything that must be done. Was there anything you wanted to accomplish this weekend that didn't get done? Um, shopping for a dress or something to wear to a wedding I'm supposed to be attending in a couple weeks. Although I wasn't too crazy about actually doing it so I don't mind that much that I didn't cross it off my to-do list.

7. What is your favorite game to play with a group and/or an individual? (board game, computer game, athletic, etc.) Boggle or similar game (wordfind at yahoo games is similar). Also love to play volleyball, indoors or outside. Also a fan of card games.

Today's comment topic is: Innie or Outtie? Innie. Outties scare me. Unless it's on an ickle baby or something. They just look weird.

Monday Memory
Share with us a memory of the very first time you drove a car. Now, we all know this should be your first driving lesson. But was it?? If you've never driven a car, is there a reason? (Obviously if you're too young this one is a bit of a dud.. sorry.. you can tell us a bike story if you like!)

First time I drove a car. Geez. I don't know if i can answer this one....trying to remember when that was. Hmm. It probably was helping move a car in our driveway or something like that. But first time on the road, I guess was just after getting my learner's permit. My mom went with me and on the way home, she pulled over and told me to get in the driver's seat. I wasn't ready for on-road driving. I refused and said I wasn't ready and complained that it was dark out and many more excuses. Finally I gave in and got behind the wheel...scared and nervous. As I pulled back onto the road, a car that felt the need to be going as fast as possible, tailed me the whole way as I did the speed limit. It was then that I coined the term "he's up my ass" to apply to drivers who feel the need to tailgate. As it was dark out he had (or she) their headlights on....and being so close...man, they were bright. Even more intimidating...which to be honest, I didn't need. Now when jerks like that are behind me, sometimes I will go extra slow just to piss them off. Aren't I mean ;)

Participation Positives:
- I am alive and healthy
- I have family that cares about me
- my sweetie
- I have a roof over my head
- catching up with old friends
- having food in my kitchen
- having coffee in my kitchen
- my air conditioner
- I have talent...even though I'm jobless
- I will get a great job doing what I love eventually
- I am not alone in being jobless
- my hair still looks good even though it's been nearly a year since it's been cut
- have someone to pound out a new concept with...yay!
Okay that was really hard. I know that most of those are kind of generic but I figure that since I've been so down in the dumps lately that it would be a good way to attempt to keep up my spirits. The negatives are way too easy to see right now. Got to find a way to let the positive stuff get through.

Sunday Op-ed
1) Television- What shows do I regularly try to catch? Over time this has become a smaller number. I like the Gilmore Girls, the Simpsons, Futurama, Good Eats and Iron Chef and the Osbournes (when I can catch them at someone's place who has cable as I'm currently cableless), M.A.S.H. and any britcoms I can find.
2) Radio- What kind of radio stations do I listen to? It varies. My taste in music is somewhat dependant on my mood. I listen to classic rock, hiphop, alternative/rock, and reggae stations.
3) Newspaper- Do I read the newspaper? Sometimes. If I get my hands on the Metro, which is free, then definitely. I rarely go out and purchase one unless I need the classifieds section or something like that.

just for future reference: graphic goo

Recently returned from my mini- "camping" trip. Turned out to be better than I thought. Apparently the cabin was in better shape than originally assumed to be, so we were able to use the beds, instead of having to set up camp outside. Got there as the sun was setting. It was a gorgeous pink and orange sunset. We waded across the sandbar, which ended up being about knee-high...so not too bad. The four of us talked, drank and sang along to the music of the guitars two had brought along to play. A great night. Very soul soothing to be with good friends and just kickback and enjoy each other. Woke up earlier than expected this morning. I just couldn't sleep anymore even though I was extremely tired and slightly hungover. Went outside and sat on the porch looking out at the lake. Beautiful. Hung around for a while before heading home. I really hope we get to make at least one more trip this summer.

Meeting up with old friends makes me think about those who I've lost touch with over the years. There are a few of those who don't even live that far away and we just drift away from each other, personal things taking presidence over making time to meet up. It makes me sad to see some of these people who are wonderful and great friends slip away. True there are those who, in the end, it's probably better to be away from them. But usually that's not the way it happens. At least with me. Then again there are a few friends of mine who I don't see for long periods of time and when we meet up, it's like I just saw them last week...nothing changes, we just pick up where we left off. That's always great too.

Apparently I'm going camping tonight. It's been ages since I've done that. A friend from ages back has this little house (more of a shack) on a lake. Supposedly it's in rough shape (it was in rough shape 8 years ago, last time I was there), so we're going to be sleeping al fresco. The worst part of it is, there used to be a sandbar that connected the island to the mainland, but now it's underwater so you have to wade through it...about thigh deep. That part I'm not looking forward to. I don't know why they can't get a raft. They used to have a canoe...be nice to use it. So silly. I'm still not sure why we're going there but, whatever. Should be interesting at least. And it's free...which is even better. Can't beat free entertainment.

Just had some people come by to look at my apartment. I never know what to say to them. I just figured I'd get out out the way and let them do their thing. There were two people...hopefully only one of them was going to take the place...cos there's no way two people could live in this space. It's just barely a one bedroom...closer to a studio. There's a separate bedroom and all but the kitchen is part of the livingroom. For one it's fine. For two it'd be a bit tight.

I'm going to have to start looking soon. I hate moving and apartment hunting. I'm not looking forward to it at all. There is a disillusionment that occurs too quickly. You start off thinking you'll find an amazing place and when you go to see what is actually out there...all hopes get dashed. I guess those people with the great apartments don't move out so they are never avaliable or something. That, or they are just out of whatever range I can afford. *sigh* I wonder how long we can put it off before we screw ourselves over with no place to live?

just a thought

Blogging and advertising. Two interesting topics. Two things we may see merged in time to come. Webloging allows a peek into the thinking of the average joe. And with more and more weblogs being started every day, it is highly likely that this will be used by marketers, researchers, etc to get into the mind of their target audiences. What do they like? What do they read? What do they wear? What are their dreams and hopes? By blog-hopping or blog-surfing, one can get into the minds of like people, following their links. Whether it be because of age or interest, there is a common link which these people share.
Being a copywriter I find weblog surfing quite interesting. Although being unemployed it's hard for me to implement what knowledge I aquire about demographics. (Although I do look at weblogs at a personal level- I enjoy reading what other people write and seeing how they think.) But I guess the question that I'm pondering is whether this will become a commonplace technique used by marketers and demographic researchers. It's possible it already is, although I doubt it. But I do see it having a high probability in the future.
(I'm sure there's more for me to expand upon on this but right now I just wanted to get it out of my head and put it somewhere. Maybe when I'm not feeling so tired I'll try to flesh it out more.)

Job

Finally back working again, as of tomorrow, after a month of no work. I'm so glad. Although I wish it was a better job than what it will be, but money is money...and I need whatever I can get. *sigh* Oh to be a college student getting funds from parents again! This being an adult thing stinks. At least it does while unemployed. It wasn't too bad when I had a job.
Last night was kind of a bust. Went to C's and was going to make just the two of us a nice taco dinner. While at the supermarket I get a call from him asking if it's too late to get enough for three more people. Now, granted I usually wouldn't care too much, but I'm the only one of everyone who hasn't worked for a while, and practically really broke, and I'm buying them all dinner? Something is wrong with this picture. No one offered even a couple bucks to help pay for it. No one offered to help me make it, other than C. I dunno, I guess I am not too crazy about C's friends. They are about the same age and yet they still act like they are 5 years younger or something. And it really bugs me sometimes. Not only that but it's been over a year that I've been with C and I feel like they still treat me like "the girlfriend" most of the time. I really don't like that. But oh well. They are his friends, not mine. Not only that but I get annoyed the way they team up on him and tease him. I guess that's always the way with trio-friends. When there's just two of the three it's okay, but add the other one and it gets screwy. I remember when I was in elementary school it was like that with my two best friends. It's weird that dynamics like that happen. Maybe I just read into stuff too much sometimes. Or I get too paraniod about what people say about me behind my back. For the most part I really don't care what people think...so I don't know why it bugs me from time to time.

why does computer stuff give me a headache when I don't get it? I'm trying to find the right cd-rw for this thing, and whatever else I need and I keep getting more and more confussled! Ack! Silly computer things. Ah well...I'm lucky to have great people who know about computers near me (well near in the way that I can send an email to them!) Anyways, it's late or early and I should head for bed (read- read some of my book before I fall asleep), hence the illogical chatter. Well not quite illogical. Anyways...until I blog again :)

Yikes

I cannot believe it's July already. Scary! Hurrah for there actually being comments on this now! Thank you :) Who knew soap would generate discussion ;)

Thankfully it's cooled down this evening. I was melting today...and according to the weather folk, it's only going to get hotter and more humid. UGH!
